In 2087, an ecological catastrophe struck. Earth began to slow its rotation, and the sun started scorching the surface harder every year. Cities collapsed into chaos, water vanished, crops failed, and survival became a daily war.

World governments united and formed a new scientific branch inside the Cobalt Organization. Their mission was urgent: study the new climate, preserve the last vegetation, and recover anything that could keep humanity alive.

A team of scientists settled near the winter region, hidden in a small depression, far from prying eyes. But people were already dividing.

Some wanted power, control, and resources. They robbed, threatened, and crushed anyone who refused to obey. They became known as the Marauders. They lived in forests, built roadblocks, and seized oil and ore quarries. They constantly pushed toward the abandoned city, lands that became known as the Neutral Territories.

The civilian population, the Nomads, were forced out of the forests and into the desert. They learned to survive with wood and stone, and built a trading city for all people: the City of Hope. The Nomads believed anyone who needed food or water should have a chance to live.

To keep the economy alive, the Nomads made a peace agreement with the Marauders: Marauders could bring airships to the city to trade resources, and no one shoots inside the City of Hope.
